RYAN'S RACING TIPSLEARN TO RELAX WHILE YOU RACE - RACE TIP #1 So you've decided you would like to learn more about racing than just going out and having fun. What's the first thing you should do to improve your skills. We should start by getting your body into position first. In our karts the best position is usually as close to the steering wheel as possible without getting your legs to cramped up. This will get the center of gravity closer to the center of the kart which will help in the handling of the kart. Keeping the steering neutral. And secondly it will position your arms and chest closer to the steering wheel so you won't be reaching for the wheel which causes arm fatigue. Third try to get your body to be relaxed. The more you can relax the longer you can race without making mistakes caused by muscle fatigue. Hand position on the steering wheel is best at the 10 o'clock and the 2 o'clock position but if your arms are getting to tired because your body style won't let you get close enough to the steering wheel with the adjustment that is available then you can try lowering your hand position some until your arms can relax. When racing keep your eyes looking ahead of you and looking where you want to go. Your eyes should be focused well ahead of yourself making yourself aware of other racers well in advance of you reaching them. Try going out for a race session and just key on body, eye and relaxing, not trying for your best time, but on getting your best body position for our karts. This will result in an overall improvement of your whole race times and you won't be dead tired at the end of each race. Written by Ryan Gifford- owner, racer, SuperKart Racing. Each month in our newsletter we'll include a racing tip from Ryan. |
